Tidal - Changing the world or a massive miscalculation?



Jay-Z has relaunched 'Tidal' - a streaming service he bought for $56 million. He banded together heaps of high profile names including Arcade Fire, Calvin Harris, Beyonce, Daft Punk, Coldplay, Deadmau5, Jack White, J Cole, Kanye West, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Rhianna and Usher. So not an all so insignificant bunch. 

But is it a pretty insignificant product?

Tidal will apparently be structured like other streaming service eg. Spotify. What will be different will be the quality of the songs - they will be 'CD' quality, rather than 'MP3' quality. There has been a lot of controvsersy around this because there is talk that Tidal is effectively going to be double the price of what a Spotify subscription is. Would you pay double for something you might not even notice? 

There are some claims that Tidal will pay more to the artists - which if it happens would be great - but will it happen? Time will tell.
